RAPID NeuroFascial Reset (NFR) Saskatoon

Have you been plagued by pain that doesn’t resolve, no matter what you’ve tried? At Central Avenue Health Centre, we’re pleased to offer RAPID NeuroFascial Reset (RAPID). This neurologically-based, hands-on technique gets excellent results.

The technique activates substance P, a natural chemical in the body that decreases inflammation and causes a pain-reducing reaction.

RAPID addresses the central nervous system’s role in alleviating tension and restrictions within the body.

The evidence-based manual therapy technique can quickly and effectively eliminate pain in patients. RAPID can be used for both acute and chronic conditions.

Conditions

Here are some of the conditions that RAPID can quickly resolve:

  • Frozen shoulder
  • Vertigo
  • TMJ issues
  • Incontinence
  • Any stubborn or unresponsive injury

What to Expect

Megan, one of our registered massage therapists, has specialized training in RAPID. She has training in upper, lower and core RAPID. To provide the treatment, Megan takes a thorough history and examination before combining hands-on palpation with active movements by the patient. You may be in a seated or lying down position, depending on the area being addressed.

Using her hands, she palpates the tissues to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of the muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Areas that are highly sensitive are treated through a combination of precisely directed depth and tension with highly specific patient movements. Megan will address the most painful areas first, and work down to the less painful spots.

RAPID sessions may be uncomfortable, as the neurological system is being stimulated to restore proper function, however short term discomfort is manageable with breaks as needed. Please know that it’s normal to feel some discomfort in the days following your session.

After Care

Following your RAPID appointment, make sure you drink lots of water and stay away from caffeine as it drains the muscles from hydration. It’s also important to stay moving but only perform movements that aren’t painful.

FAQ

How many treatments will I need?

Typically, it takes 2-8 treatments, depending on the area and problem being addressed.

Is there anyone who can’t receive the treatment?

If you have a weeping injury, a possible broken bone or torn muscle, you can’t receive RAPID.

Do I need a massage first?

No, a RAPID appointment does not need to accompany a massage appointment however some patients enjoy the combination. If a patient does have both, the massage appointment will happen before the RAPID session. A long RAPID appointment is approximately 30 minutes in length and is best suited for patients new to RAPID or those that have a few areas that should be worked on. A short RAPID appointment is approximately 15 minutes and is often scheduled for follow up visits.

What should I wear to my treatment session?

If you are wanting a RAPID appointment without a massage, wear loose, comfortable clothing like you’d wear to the gym. T-shirts are preferable to long or sleeveless shirts, and cotton or a non-slip fabric is best (please nothing silky or ‘slippery’ to the touch, as the therapist needs to apply stable pressure). Same goes for your pants, please choose something cotton or non-slip (leggings are fine as long as they are not spandex, Lycra, etc.) and no jeans or jean shorts, please.

Can the technique reduce scars?

Yes! RAPID was performed in a California burn clinic to reduce scars on a patient with first degree burns. Within two weeks, the patient’s skin was virtually scar-free.
